The HEG Sensor measures the (relative) blood flow inside the brain. The HEG Sensor from Biomcomp Research hastwo pIR sensors that are used to measure the quality of circulating blood: one projects the infrared light inward while the other catches the returning rays. Thus it is possible to determine the blood in that particular section of the brain is oxygen-rich oxygen-depleted or hypoperfused. This sensor is compatible with NeXus.
The sensors are mounted on a band that wraps around the head and fastens with Velcro. No special paste or preparation is needed. The NeXus HEG Sensor takes up two auxiliary (AUX) inputs.
Hemoencephalography (HEG) is a technique to measure the (relative) blood flow inside the brain. It appears that blood flow is poor in certain brain areas of persons suffering from several types of "brain problems" (e.g. ADD/ADHD autism).
These HEG sensors are not manufactured by Mind Media. They therefore may have a different quality level but these sensors are however compatible with our NeXus equipment and approved to use. Hemoencephalography (HEG) is a relatively new neurofeedback technique and is still experimental. Research continues to determine its reliability validity and clinical applicability.
